Matt Feeney
Board Member
At the age of 25, Matt Feeney’s life changed after sustaining an unforeseen injury. Matt returned to work in Denver’s financial industry but soon realized he craved a more active and fulfilling lifestyle. In 1991, he relocated to the mountains to embrace his passion for skiing.
He joined the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) in Winter Park, becoming the first individual with a disability to lead a sit-ski program in the U.S. Over his decade-long tenure, Matt played a key role in tripling the program's size while witnessing the transformative impact outdoor sports had on participants, often changing lives.
During this time, Matt discovered a deep love for other adaptive sports, including water-skiing, hand cycling, and mountain biking. His passion and experiences inspired him to address a gap in the adaptive sports community: the need for programs that not only provided opportunities to engage in sports but also fostered social connections and provided information about all sports programs for individuals with disabilities across the country. This vision led to the creation of
Adaptive Adventures in 1999. Adaptive Adventures empowers individuals with physical disabilities and their families by offering life-changing opportunities and promoting freedom of mobility. The organization helps participants build confidence and find inspiration to achieve their personal goals.
As a two-time U.S. off-road champion, accomplished hand cyclist, and experienced ski instructor, Matt brings a wealth of expertise to the adaptive sports world. Through his leadership and dedication, he continues to enhance the lives of countless individuals facing similar challenges.
With his experience in nonprofit leadership, and empowering individuals with disabilities, Matt is a perfect fit for the board of Women’s World on Wheels, helping to further its mission of uplifting and connecting women wheelchair users.
